BN2 Cardioid Capsule

Linear Purity. Uncompromised Performance.

The BN2 Cardioid represents the purest expression of our “Cochlear Linear” design philosophy. It is a dedicated, single-backplate capsule built for the engineer who demands an honest, musical capture with the highest level of mechanical integrity.

Sonic Truth

The BN2 Cardioid provides a sound signature that is detailed yet creamy, offering a finished, record-ready quality straight from the source. Its “Kodachrome™” character ensures that nothing stands out because everything is exactly where it should be. With a remarkably linear frequency response that avoids artificial peaks, the BN2 captures the true essence of a performance without the need for post-capture correction or electronic taming.

Australian Craftsmanship

By utilizing our proprietary in-house machining and injection molding technology, the BN2 Cardioid is constructed with a high-temperature plastic-to-brass interface. This allows the capsule to be machined as a single, unified piece. This level of manufacturing precision allows us to achieve tolerances of ±0.5 dB, making the BN2 Cardioid an exceptional choice for perfectly matched stereo pairs with a rock-solid center image. Each  Capsule is entirely manufactured in the Beesneez factory in Australia under the guidance of CEO and industry expert Ben Sneesby. By rejecting outsourced mass production, Beesneez can achieve tight consistency and sonic quality in each capsule. With no outsourcing, Beesneez has full control of material, tolerances and voicing.

Key Features:

  • Vented Backplate Technology: Borrowing from small-diaphragm condenser design, the vented backplate allows the diaphragm to move in free space, avoiding internal air pressure buildup and ensuring a natural, open sound.
  • Aluminum Styroflex Diaphragm: The use of rigid aluminum over traditional materials ensures a docile and linear low-end response, providing warmth without boominess.
  • Edge-Terminated Diaphragm: By moving the termination to the edge, the diaphragm is granted 10x the movement factor of center-terminated designs for superior sensitivity.
  • Natural Harmonic Balance: Designed to excel on instruments with rich overtones, such as acoustic guitars and string sections, ensuring that harmonics stay in perfect proportion to the primary tone.
  • Versatile Performance: While excellent for all sources, thanks to its ability to perfectly balance the harmonics with the fundamental, it shines on voices and instruments with complex and rich overtones.

Frequently Asked Questions

The BN2 cardioid capsule is a BeesNeez original design rather than a clone of a historic capsule. Customers often ask whether it suits FET, tube, transformer, or transformerless circuits.

A good answer would be: the BN2 can be used creatively in a range of circuits, but the final result depends heavily on the voicing of the circuit around it. It is not simply a “drop-in clone” capsule, so it is best matched with a circuit that does not over-compensate for a bright K87-style capsule unless the circuit is adjusted accordingly.

For DIY builders, we recommend discussing the intended circuit before ordering so we can steer you toward the best match.

Edge-terminated and centre-terminated capsules differ in where the diaphragm is electrically connected and mechanically referenced. In a centre-terminated capsule, the conductive diaphragm is typically connected near the centre, which is associated with designs such as the M7 and K47 families. In an edge-terminated capsule, the diaphragm connection is made around the outer edge, as seen in CK12-style designs. These construction choices influence diaphragm behaviour, tuning options, pattern behaviour, and the final tone of the microphone. It is too simple to say one type is better. Centre-terminated capsules are often associated with strong midrange and classic vocal weight, while edge-terminated capsules are often associated with openness and extended detail, but the actual result depends on the whole capsule and microphone design.
