BC –
A review 4 years in the making.
I talked to Ben in July of 2020 when BeesNeez got on my radar. After a great chat, he sent me a pair of Lulu FET’s and a T1. The T1 is my first and so far only Tube mic and it’s been a wonderful journey getting to know how to harness such a beast.
Tonally, this mic is bold and beautiful. Very pleasing low/low mid glow with a forward and sparkling mid range. This has been my de-facto vocal mic since I got it. I’ve even tracked two singers on either side of the mic using figure-8 and it sounds near finished. No need to run preamps hot to get added harmonics because this microphone delivers it in spades. In fact, you may like using this mic with a clean preamp because it’s got so much color and mojo. If you’re used to transformerless/transparent microphone designs, the T1 will smack you in the face. The Beesneez T1 is a rich and classy sounding microphone that I can’t see myself selling. Oh, and it’s built like a WW2 submarine.
The true testament to how amazing this microphone is comes during mix down. When singers record through the T1 and some compression on the way in, getting it to sit in the mix is an absolute breeze. I’m using less EQ, saturation and de-essing. It’s just a killer microphone.
The T1 has also been put to work on drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and Omni room capture. The mids on this mic just speak incredibly well on playback. Positioned correctly, the T1 will also deliver you a fat and classic drum overhead sound.
Well done Ben, I’m sold.
