K87 Capsule

(2 customer reviews)

The BeesNeez K87 Microphone capsule is the perfect replacement or DIY K87 Microphone capsule.

The K87 was originally manufactured and made famous in the Neumann U87. It has isolated backplates, which was a feature necessary in this microphone to achieve accurate pattern control with a lower bias voltage of 48v given that the U87 was a phantom-powered microphone

Australian Craftsmanship

All Beesneez Capsules are entirely manufactured in the Beesneez factory in Australia under the guidance of CEO and industry expert Ben Sneesby. By rejecting outsourced mass production, Beesneez can achieve tight consistency and sonic quality in each capsule. With no outsourcing, Beesneez has full control of material, tolerances and voicing.

DIY and OEM Compatibility

Ideal for DIY builders crafting U87-style microphones or retro-style replicas, as well as for professional users seeking high-performance replacement capsules. The Beesneez K87 replacement microphone capsule can be a drop-in replacement for the classic K87 microphone capsule.   The capsule ships with the mount, saddle and wiring for easy installation.

Integration

  • OEM and ODM manufacturers.
  • DIY microphone builders.
  • Professional mic techs and modders seeking authentic capsule upgrades.
  • Studios recreating vintage classics.

Why Choose the Beesneez K87  Capsule?

The K87 microphone capsule is more than a component, it’s a tribute to the golden era of studio microphones, reconstructed with modern craftsmanship and precision. Whether you’re resurrecting vintage designs or creating your own, the K87 Capsule provides that elusive blend of character, consistency, and build quality hard to find elsewhere. Vintage K87 microphone capsules are rare, fragile, and inconsistent, but with modern precision machining there is less variability and more dependable results.

Frequently Asked Questions

The K87 and K67 are closely related large-diaphragm capsule families, but they are associated with different circuit requirements and microphone designs. The K67 is strongly associated with the U67 valve microphone, where the capsule is used with circuitry that helps shape and control its response. The K87 is associated with U87-style FET microphones and is configured for that multi-pattern electrical system. In many discussions, “K67-style” is used broadly to describe this acoustic family, but the electrical details and backplate connections can differ. The practical takeaway is that a K87 and K67 should not be judged only by name. The final microphone sound depends on how the capsule is wired, tuned, and matched to the circuit.
Edge-terminated and centre-terminated capsules differ in where the diaphragm is electrically connected and mechanically referenced. In a centre-terminated capsule, the conductive diaphragm is typically connected near the centre, which is associated with designs such as the M7 and K47 families. In an edge-terminated capsule, the diaphragm connection is made around the outer edge, as seen in CK12-style designs. These construction choices influence diaphragm behaviour, tuning options, pattern behaviour, and the final tone of the microphone. It is too simple to say one type is better. Centre-terminated capsules are often associated with strong midrange and classic vocal weight, while edge-terminated capsules are often associated with openness and extended detail, but the actual result depends on the whole capsule and microphone design.

2 reviews for K87 Capsule

  1. John (verified owner) –

I bought two of these capsules for a pair of U87 clones I built and they sound fantastic. The top end is nice and subdued, and the low mids are soild and aggressive, making these capsules great for drum overhead, vocals, electric guitar amp, just about anything really. I find the U87 to be a neutral mic that is easy to shape to however you want it, and this capsule does just that.

  2. Ryan (verified owner) –

Used this capsule to build a u87 clone. It’s excellent. I built another with a no-name Chinese capsule and they sound like two completely different microphones. The BeesNeez capsule is creamy!
